Energy Saving Review of Centre results in 15% Cost Savings
27/05/08
Following an independent review by Hengoed based utility and environmental services consultancy Utility and Environmental Solutions Limited (UES), Wales Millennium Centre, has been able to cut energy costs by 15%, reducing its carbon emissions and impact on the environment.
Working with UES the occupiers of the iconic Centre have successfully restructured the energy tariffs with suppliers and negotiated rebates. The UES team - who have also signed as sponsors of the Centre - have now been invited to review the Centre's water use and waste streams and to advise on further energy efficiency initiatives.
Since opening, Wales Millennium Centre has attracted over 4 million visitors, making it the most visited tourism attraction in Wales. On a massive 7 acre site, the multi-purpose Centre presents a complex operating environment. The range of demands by different productions in the 1900 seat Donald Gordon Theatre had resulted in wide variations in energy costs; especially at a time when the energy market was unpredictable. Like any efficient business, Wales Millennium Centre constantly reviews its operations and streamlines its services to ensure continued success. Said Director of Operations, Brian Loudon, ‘Working with UES on a shared benefit basis, we have been able to draw on their in depth industry knowledge and independence to secure the very best deal for our business while also, importantly, reducing our environmental impact."
Wales Millennium Centre has an environmental group, incorporating representatives from resident and retail partners based at the Centre. This week the Centre will be running an in house Environmental Awareness Week to encourage staff to act more responsibly - both in the workplace and at home. Brian Loudon added, ‘We are delighted that UES has agreed to take part in our campaign and present to the Centre's workforce on how much difference they can make."
Established in late 2003, UES Limited has a growing portfolio of clients who realise the commercial benefits of reviewing utility costs and reducing environmental impact. Working on a shared benefit basis, the team advises on utility and environmental solutions without risking the profitability of their clients businesses.
Said Andrew Diplock, Managing Director at UES, "Wales Millennium Centre is a great example of what can be achieved; direct cost savings, enhanced profitability and reduced carbon footprint."
"All our clients are absolutely committed to maintaining the highest standards of customer care while continuously monitoring, and reducing where possible, their utility costs and environmental impact', he added. As independent specialists in the utility sector, UES work with their clients to maximise opportunities for cost savings at no risk to their business. It's a simple concept that allows clients to focus on running their businesses while we review and manage their utility costs."
