UES were named winners of the ‘Arts, Business and the Environment' award at the Arts & Business Cymru (A&B Cymru) Annual Awards Dinner.

The awards recognise the best examples of partnerships between the arts and businesses in Wales.

The ‘Arts, Business and the Environment' award was in recognition of the UES partnership with the Wales Millennium Centre.  Having previously worked with the Centre for 3 years as advisors on utilities and energy usage, UES were able to help the Centre cut down on its energy usage by 15%, plus reduce its carbon emissions and impact on the environment. In May 2008, UES also took part in the Centre's Environmental Awareness Week, encouraging staff to become more responsible - both in the workplace and at home.

In addition, as part of the Centre's extensive outreach project, UES staff and two local schools (Ysgol y Castell in Caerphilly and Maes y Bryn in Lantwit Fardre) received Circus Skills workshops.  The project culminated in a showcase performance in the Glanfa at Wales Millennium Centre to audiences coming to see a performance by the world renowned Circus Oz.

Winning this award highlights the commitment of UES to improving environmental awareness and enriching its local community.
